As dance teachers at Accrington Academy we help students combine physical strength and flexibility with creative, artistic expression. We enable students to challenge themselves physically and imaginatively as they respond to given stimuli from different eras, cultures and traditions.
Pupils at Accrington Academy learn the importance of warming up the body as well as stimulating the brain in order to create performances that communicate to an audience. Lessons take place in our purpose built, sprung-floored dance studio. The mirrored wall and ballet barre allow students to develop precision in their movements and observe their own development. It’s not surprising that when they see their progress, students are keen to perform to an audience and they get numerous opportunities to do so in whole school musicals, smaller showcase events and to each other in assemblies.
A focus on precision and performance not only develops students’ technique in Dance, it gives them the poise and confidence to approach any situation in life head on. We aim to ensure our students understand the importance of practice and resilience in achieving anything, as well as helping them develop a healthy lifestyle in which movement and physical exercise are a habit. At the centre of all that we do is a passion for Dance that we aim to inspire in all our students.
