The Principles & Purpose of the Business Studies Curriculum at Accrington Academy

Our Business Studies course aims to enable students to understand more about the business world. At Accrington Academy students will learn about business concepts, business terminology, business objectives and the impact of business on individuals and wider society. Accrington Academy to enhance knowledge and understanding of contemporary business issues relating to small and medium-sized businesses.

At Accrington Academy we aim to guide and support students to apply and evaluate these issues in real life settings through vocational contexts by studying the knowledge, behaviours and skills related to researching, planning, pitching and reviewing an enterprise idea as part of their Key Stage 4 learning.

Key Stage 5 learning at Accrington Academy will take on a more theoretical approach, students will learn the principles behind how to run a company or manage it effectively. This includes how to manage people as well as making strategic decisions in any workplace. Learners will also develop the knowledge and skills needed to analyse data, think critically about issues and make informed decisions.

What are we aiming to achieve in the Business Studies Department?

At Accrington Academy we aim the Business Studies department aim to develop, stimulate and maintain student curiosity, interest and enjoyment of Business. This is done by focusing on technical skills, such as market research skills, planning, promotional and financial skills using realistic work scenarios, and personal skills (such as monitoring own performance, time management and problem solving). This will instil not only business knowledge but vital skills needed for further study and employment.
