Careers

Accrington Academy is committed to providing our students with a programme of careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) for all students in years 7-13. The programme the Academy delivers makes a major contribution to preparing young people for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life.

We work closely with the careers and enterprise co-ordinator for Hyndburn, in order to keep abreast of all the latest career and industry trends. 

Our PSHE curriculum provides students with the opportunity to receive sessions centred around careers and enterprises that ensure our students at Accrington Academy are well informed and equipped with the information they need to make informed choices regarding their futures. 

Unifrog

Unifrog brings all available information into one single, impartial, user friendly platform, helping students to make the best choices and submit the strongest applications. They also empower teachers to manage the progression process effectively. If you haven’t yet received an opportunity to register, you will be sent a welcome e-mail soon. Registration is very simple and only takes a couple of minutes.

Please see an Unifrog introduction video, aimed at showing you around the platform in more detail ,but once you have access to the platform you will find plenty of "How to Guides" and Webinairs. In addition the team at Unifrog have offered online training for small groups of staff and that is something that we will be exploring over the coming weeks. Many of you will have already registered for a staff account on Unifrog and will have used resources with students over the last year.

We know that employers in the UK have concerns about skills gaps and the work-readiness of some young people.

Through employer engagement at all ages, we ensure that young people conclude their education with the skills, competencies, knowledge, appropriate qualifications and attitudes desired by employers for both their own career development and economic sustainability and growth

We are interested in hearing from employers from businesses and other organisations passionate about engaging with our students to develop their understanding of the world of work, their skills and competencies, thus shape the future workforce and bringing the ‘world of work’ to life for the next generation.

Labour Market information (LMI for All)

The LMI for All is an online data portal, which provides high quality, reliable labour market information (LMI) with the aim of informing careers decisions. 

This tool from the LMI for All website lets you compare up to three jobs and look at how much they pay, what your day-to-day duties might be and whether there will be many job opportunities available in this career area in the future.

For students still hoping to apply to university for the current academic year it would be great if they gave some thought over the summer holidays about the sorts of things that they might want to include in their personal statement – ideally returning to school with a completed first draft.
