Meet the Staff

1. Ms. Jackie Rogers - Director of Mathematics, Business and ICT
I always enjoyed Maths at school because it made sense and everything had a final answer. I chose to do a Maths degree at Manchester University simply because I enjoyed the subject and not because I wanted to become a teacher. The parts of Maths I enjoy the most are algebra and statistics. Outside of school, I enjoy watching films and catching up with friends.

Subject Leader of Mathematics2. Mrs. Kate Bentley - Subject Leader of Mathematics
I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering and had worked in Industry for 3 years before becoming a teacher. I lived & worked in Scotland for a couple of years before returning to Lancashire for work. I am really competitive (ask my form C-KB) and become irritated when people don’t try their best.

3. Mr. John Fiddler - Assistant Subject Leader of Mathematics
I gained an MA Honours degree from Edinburgh University in Mathematics and Economics. I like all sports and I’m an avid Preston North End Supporter. I dream of one day treading out onto the hallowed turf at Deepdale, but until then, I will keep practicing with the staff team!

4. Ms. Alison Ashton - Mathematics Cover Supervisor
I have followed a varied and interesting career path, before coming to work in education. When I first left school I trained to be a lifeguard. After that I worked as a Holiday Rep in Benidorm for a season. I then went to University and studied for a BA Honours degree in Primary Education with Mathematics. I have two sons.

5. Mr. Muhammad Baig - Mathematics Teacher with responsibility for Functional Skills
I have a degree in Computer Science and am qualified to teach both Maths and ICT. I enjoy 5 aside football with friends.

6. Mrs. Christine McIntosh - Mathematics Teacher with responsibility for Mathematics Challenges
I have taught since 1975 in Secondary Schools in the East Lancashire Area, the last 25 years at Accrington Academy (previously Moorhead). I gained a Cert Ed (Maths & Science) at Chester College and have two grown up children. I enjoy swimming and am a member of two local choirs.

7. Miss. Hafsa Namaji - Mathematics Teacher with responsibility for Mathematics Challenges
I have always enjoyed Mathematics and would like to see all my students enjoy the subject also. I recently graduated with a first class BSc Honours degree in ‘Mathematics with Statistics’ and then moved on to study for a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of Manchester.  I am looking forward to study for a Masters level accreditation in Education.

8. Mrs. Claire Simon - Mathematics Teacher & Director of Professional Development & Community Engagement
I became a maths teacher because I have always loved maths and it was my best subject in school. My degree is in maths which I enjoyed studying. My favourite topic is of course algebra and I love sitting down and trying to solve impossible algebraic problems. My hobbies are swimming, reading and going for long walks. My favourite holiday venue is the South of France.
