Mathematics in the Curriculum.

At Accrington Academy we believe that the curriculum should fit the individual learner. We therefore have a number of pathways from Key stage 3 to Key stage 5. This ensures every learner receives the correct level of challenge.

Most pupils of our pupils will complete a 1 ½ year KS3 program of study before embarking upon a GCSE in Mathematics (final assessment Summer Y11) and a GCSE in Statistics (final assessment Summer Y10).

ACCELERATED LEARNING

Our accelerated learning group (L5a+ at KS2), are given the opportunity to sit their Higher Tier GCSE Mathematics in November Y10. Dependant upon the group, either ‘AS' level Mathematics or Additional Mathematics is studied until the end of Y11.

FOUNDATION TIER LEARNING

Our foundation learning group (below L3 at KS2), are given the opportunity to improve their basic numeracy skills through learning in context / real life situations. The aim of the Mathematics Department is to secure KS3 L4 at the start of Y10. Pupils then sit a Foundation Tier GCSE in Mathematics.
