Pastoral welfare
Accrington Academy is committed to seeing every student succeed through an inspiring and fulfilling education. We are passionate about our students and their education and are driven by the desire to continuously improve, within a caring and supportive ‘learning community'.
I was very keen to join Accrington Academy at the start of its inception. I was very impressed with its ethos and values concerning additional educational needs and striving to maintain a safe, yet challenging, educational environment, for all of its pupils. The pupils are polite, considerate and well behaved and have coped admirably with all the changes that have taken place in the Academy. They are a credit to their parents and families

All students within the academy are attached to one of four Colleges and have a College Tutor who they see each day. Our College tutor groups include students from all years and are designed so that older students can assist younger ones as they develop. Our College and tutor groups allow students to belong to a pastoral family, where students from all ages support one another and participate in a variety of enrichment opportunities. Students will also have a personal tutor who will meet with them regularly to review both academic and personal progress. Each College is managed by a Director of Learning, who is supported by a Pastoral Manager.
There is regular contact between the academy and home, and parents receive full and interim reports in addition to parent consultation evenings.
There are many opportunities for students to develop their leadership skills within the academy. In addition to our Student Leadership Team, which has representatives from each College and curriculum area, students are also elected to our Sports Council, Arts Council and to leadership posts within each College. Students also act as library assistants and daily monitors.
