The sports science directorate incorporates more than the daily routine of teaching of teaching and learning. We also prioritise sporting clubs for the students. These occur daily before and after school. We believe that it is important for students to relate science practice their ecological beliefs. This directorate benefits from outstanding facilities including 7 purpose built science labs and many sporting facilities including a state of the art ‘fitness suite’.
At key stage 4 the directorate offers a wide range of courses for students including extremely popular BTEC courses in all three subject areas.
Within this Directorate you will find the subjects of Music, Drama, Art, Media and Technology. The Directorate is a vibrant and lively place to be both during and after the school day has finished. You will find students using new technologies, playing instruments, creating animation and being both dramatic and innovative with a variety of materials.
After school students are busy working towards school productions, fashion shows, plays, food competitions and programmes for the Academy's Radio Station.
Maths, Business and Enterprise
This directorate combines a specialism of the academy with major themes of Business, Enterprise and ICT.
In our directorate we will be aiming to provide students with the essential skills needed to be successful individuals in an increasingly competitive and complex world. Mathematics will not only drive up standards in qualifications but ensure that all our students leave ready to be able to apply their mathematical knowledge in the real world.
Business and Enterprise qualifications will be supported by numerous opportunities for students to develop and explore the skills required in the workplace.
ICT will underpin every element of the academy's work and students' studies. Within the directorate we will be aiming to ensure that students and staff use cutting edge technology to support learning and increase the success of each individual.
The communication faculty consists of English, Humanities and Modern Foreign Languages.
Our directorate is central to a range of both curricular and extra-curricular opportunities for students. The English faculty and our literacy co-coordinator will provide the core of our aim to improve the reading levels of all our students regardless of ability. This is matched by our involvement in school productions and clubs.
The MFL department continues the enrichment focus through both clubs and notably our very successful trips programme. Our department offers Spanish, French and German to students. For some students this leads to early exam entry in year 9. We are also at the forefront of offering NVQ business languages at Key stage.
Humanities consists of Geography, Religious Education and History. Fitting in with the ‘exciting minds curriculum’ in year 7 and 8 we offer an exciting combined curriculum where students encounter subjects throught themed humanities modules. In year 9 students specialize in subjects. All our subjects are offered at Key stage 4. The department continues the ‘communication’ link by running our debating club.
