Applying to Accrington Academy
The academy admissions policy places great emphasis upon family values and equity. The criteria for receiving a place at the academy are as follows - those children who have a brother or sister at the academy are guaranteed a place, followed by other children based on distance between home and the academy. There is no selection by either ability or by aptitude for the specialisms (mathematics and sport).
The admissions limit at Accrington Academy is 180.
Where the number of applications for admissions is greater than the published admissions number, applications will be considered against the criteria set out below. The criteria will be applied in the following order:
The only children who merit absolute priority are (in priority order):
1. Children who are ‘looked after' under the provision of the Children Act 1989
2. Children with significant specific medical, social or special educational needs supported by written specific professional advice
3. Children with siblings at the academy
4. Children who live the nearest distance from the academy.
All places at Accrington Academy are free of charge and open to students of all abilities and all faiths or none.
If you would like to apply for a place in Year 7 at Accrington Academy, parents must complete the Common Application Form published by Lancashire County Council. Forms can be obtained from your child's primary school or from the Council offices. The closing date for applications is 17th October 2008. Applications should be returned to the address on the Common Application Form by the time stated.
Parents will be notified in writing on 1st March 2009 of the outcome of their application.
