ACCRINGTON ACADEMY - 5 TRIES
ST CHRISTOPHERS - 5 TRIES
The lads 1st game was against St Christophers who fielded a much older/bigger side than Accrington Academy.
Our boys got off to a flying start going up 2 tries to 0 early on and defending really well dispite sustained pressure on the Academy's try-line. St Christophers eventually broke through our line and came back very strong to go up first 3 tries to 2 then 4 tries to 2. Accrington grouped though and finished the stronger side, eventually scoring in the corner to earn a hard fought draw 5 all.
DARWEN VALE - 11 TRIES
ACCRINGTON ACADEMY - 0
Next up was what proved to be Accrington's toughest test to date in Darwen Vale. With a side laced with lads with Rugby Union experience Darwen Vale were the competition favourites and jutified this with a very physical defence and ruthless attacking play. Despite this our boys never dropped their heads a gave their all throughout the game. Most of the boys picked up bumps, bruises and cuts but showed massive heart yesterday and i'm sure will be a little sore this morning.
Special mentions go out to Kurtis McMurrough (Captain for the day, led by example, and picked up a nasty knee injury), Joe Irvin and Charlie Walsh (tackled like men possessed) and James Rawstron (little man- big heart!)
