Accrington Academy students demonstrated exceptional resilience, determination and sporting excellence at the District Cross Country Championships at Witton Park, with seven runners securing top-15 finishes and one student earning district selection.
On Wednesday, Accrington Academy students proudly represented the school at the District Cross Country event held at Witton Park, competing against students from 13 schools across the district.
With Year 7 to Year 11 students taking part, the event proved to be a true test of endurance and determination. Following a period of heavy rainfall, runners faced challenging underfoot conditions throughout the course, but Accrington Academy students rose to the occasion, showing remarkable resilience and dedication from start to finish.
The Academy enjoyed an impressive day of results, with nine students achieving top-25 finishes in their respective age-group races, each competing against fields of around 80 runners. Even more impressively, seven of those students secured places within the top 15, highlighting the strength of the Academy's cross-country team.
The standout performance came from Nevaeh L, who achieved an excellent 6th-place finish in her race. As a result, Nevaeh has earned the opportunity to represent the Hyndburn, Ribble Valley and Rossendale (HRV) District at the next stage of the competition, a fantastic achievement and a testament to her hard work and commitment.
The event was a fantastic showcase of the sporting talent at Accrington Academy. Every student represented the Academy with pride, demonstrating determination, perseverance and excellent sportsmanship throughout the day.
Congratulations to all students involved on a superb performance and for being outstanding ambassadors for the Academy. We wish Nevaeh the very best as she goes on to represent the district in the next round of competition.
